This morning, agents of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) chased and shot at a caravan of workers from the Federal Judicial Power in an incident in Chiapas, apparently mistaking them for alleged members of organized crime.
According to reports, FGE agents detected three vehicles led by a black Jeep Sahara with tinted windows, which led them to stop them. The vehicles of the fiscal agents were unmarked, which caused those being pursued to believe they were being targeted by kidnappers, prompting them to accelerate and ignore the stop signal.
The Federal Judicial Power workers arrived at a police and municipal transit headquarters in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, where they were confronted by FGE agents. Most of the occupants of the trucks identified themselves as workers of the Federal Judicial Power, who were heading to Dr. Gilberto Gómez Maza Hospital to carry out altruistic work.
The State Attorney General's Office announced that it has launched an investigation conducted by the Internal Control Body of the FGE regarding the incident. They stated that their public servants fired shots at a vehicle carrying public servants from the Federal Judicial Power. They affirmed that they will carry out the necessary investigations to clarify the facts and determine responsibilities, in addition to having detained two individuals for abuse of authority in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
